Most Kingsmarch towns in POE 3.29 don't collapse because the town is weak; they collapse because the treasury gets drained while the owner chases perfect production. Treat mapping as the engine, then let workers turn spare ore, gear, maps, and crops into delayed rewards. That approach also leaves more room for ordinary POE currency upgrades instead of forcing every drop into the settlement.

Start With a Wage Budget

Gold is the first number I check after entering Kingsmarch. A large workforce looks impressive, but idle sailors, farmers, or Atlas Runners still add pressure when their inputs are missing. Recruit around your actual play schedule: miners and smelters usually deserve early attention, while farming and automated map running can wait until your character supplies them consistently. Keep a reserve for recruitment and wages, because spending the treasury on upgrades can leave the whole town frozen.

The Map Route Matters More Than the Town Layout

For POE 3.29, the best map is the one your build clears quickly without frequent deaths or awkward backtracking. Dense layouts, strongboxes, Shrines, Breach, Legion, Delirium, and other monster-heavy encounters can improve Gold income, but only if your DPS and defenses keep the run moving. Activate ore deposits that sit near your route rather than turning every map into a scavenger hunt. More completed maps usually beat a slow, risky tier that looks better on paper.

Run content your build clears reliably.
Collect nearby deposits while moving through the map.
Keep maps needed for Atlas completion out of the town device.
Pause low-priority workers when wages outrun Gold income.

Raw Ore or Processed Bars?

Smelting should become the default once your production chain is stable. Bars generally provide better shipment value than raw ore, so the extra processing time has a clear purpose. Raw shipments still make sense for a fast objective, an overloaded smelting queue, or a port request that fits your immediate stock. The practical rule is simple: ship raw material to solve a short-term problem, not because processing feels inconvenient.

Pick the Service That Matches Your Bottleneck

Service
Best Use
Watch Out For
Mining
Feeding ore production
Deposits sitting unassigned
Smelting
Improving shipment value
Queue limits
Disenchanting
Turning spare gear into Dust
Sending away useful bases
Shipping
Delayed rewards and currency
Oversized wage costs
Atlas Runners
Using surplus maps
Losing maps needed for progression
Disenchanting is strongest when your loot filter leaves a steady stream of equipment with no realistic use. I'd still inspect valuable Uniques, strong defensive items, six-linked gear, and high-level bases before sending them away. Dust can improve a shipment, but it shouldn't replace ore and bar production. From what I've seen, players gain more by assigning one service carefully than by activating every station at once.

Ship With a Reason

Small shipments suit regular progression when your stockpile is thin. Larger shipments make more sense after bars and Dust are arriving steadily, while targeted ports are better when you need Tattoos, Runegrafts, maps, or a specific reward category. Don't lock yourself into a remembered ratio; your town level, available workers, and current objective matter more than a copied formula. Before launching, ask what the shipment is meant to solve and how many mapping sessions its wages will consume. Once the loop feels stable, spare POE goods can stay focused on character upgrades rather than being swallowed by an overstaffed town.
